The article in
The New York Times by
Julie Hirschfeld Davis says it all:
President Obama will become the first sitting American president to visit Cuba since Calvin Coolidge, who went there in 1928 to show good will and signal a new beginning in relations.
Rico says that, in fairness, Cuba only ratcheted up in importance when
Castro took over, but this visit, too, will 'show good will and signal a new beginning in relations'... (And, yes,
Rico still hopes to go himself, with the fiancée, as soon as he can afford it.)
