The
BBC has an
article about a car for rich kids:
Built by Land Rover itself, this ridiculously cool child-powered Defender celebrates the real truck's 68-year run
As the Land Rover Defender trundles towards the end of its epic production run, you can now own one for a mere $15,500. There’s just one problem: your shiny new Defender will be a single-seater powered, not by a diesel engine, but by your feet, and only if you happen to be no bigger than a seven-year-old.
Still, there’s no denying this scaled down pedal car— the work of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division, no less— is an object of extreme desire. Wherever possible it stays faithful to the full-size Defender– note the skinny but authentically knobby tires, mud flaps, faux fuel-filler cap, step-up running bars and sparkly Loire Blue color, the same paint offered on its bigger brother.
The 1bcp (brake child power) running gear consists of a set of pedals that provide forward and reverse propulsion, along with working brakes, a parking brake, and tiny springs at each corner.
Oddly, the interior is plusher than any full-size Defender we’ve ever driven, with real leather-trimmed doors, seat, steering wheel, and dash. There’s even a working horn for scaring the dog, and a load bay for carting around a seven-year-old’s essentials. Don’t show this to the kids, or Christmas could get pricey.
Rico says at least it's a
Land Rover...
