Rico says there are classic westerns, and then there's the classic Western: High Noon:

A marshal, personally compelled to face a deadly enemy returning to Hadleyville, finds that his own town refuses to help him.

Starring Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly (long before all that Monaco stuff), Lloyd Bridges, the gorgeous Katy Jurado, Lon Chaney, Jr., and Harry Morgan (way before he was Colonel Potter), and Lee Van Cleef, you don't get any better than that.
