Crime for the day

Joe Brandt has an article in The Philadelphia Daily News about an ugly fight on the subway:
SEPTA Transit Police are searching for a person of interest after a woman was slashed with a box cutter at the Margaret-Orthodox station on the Market-Frankford Line this morning.
A man punched a fifty-year-old woman and sliced her forearm with the weapon during an argument around 9:30 am, SEPTA Transit Police Chief Thomas Nestel said at a news conference. The woman, who lives near the station and did not know her attacker, had raised her arm to protect herself. The blade left a five-inch gash in the arm, Nestel said.
She walked to Aria Health's Frankford hospital, where she received stitches. SEPTA Police found the woman at the hospital after receiving calls from fare-takers who witnessed the incident, Nestel added.
The man fled the station onto street level. He is said to be in his twenties, and was wearing a black backpack. It was not immediately known if he was from the neighborhood or what his motive was, Nestel said.
A few seconds of surveillance footage show the person of interest walking through the bustling station prior to the attack.
"It's a pretty busy station," Nestel said. "We don't have these kinds of things occur on the system. We rarely have an incident of violence. This is disturbing to us."
