Hillary Clinton exclusively used a personal email account while she was Secretary of State, according to The New York Times, possibly breaching a Federal law mandating the archiving of all correspondence by State Department officials.
Clinton’s aides allegedly made no effort to upload her personal emails to the department’s servers during her four-year tenure, as stipulated under the the Federal Records Act, the Times says. Instead, they reportedly went through thousands of emails two months ago, selecting which to submit as part of a renewed compliance effort from the State Department.
Attorney Jason R. Baron, a former director of litigation at the National Archives and Records Administration, told the Times that it was “very difficult to conceive of a scenario— short of nuclear winter— where an agency would be justified in allowing its Cabinet-level head officer to solely use a private email communications channel.”
