On 17 April 1961, about fifteen hundred CIA-trained Cuban exiles launched the disastrous Bay of Pigs (aptly-named, though it's properly Bahia de Cochinos) invasion of Cuba in a failed attempt to overthrow the government of Fidel Castro.
