On 17 March 1942, General Douglas MacArthur (shown here with, left to right: Sir Thomas Blamey, Commander, Allied Land Forces, and Major General G.S. Allen, Commander, Seventh Division AIF) arrived in Australia to become supreme commander of Allied forces in the southwest Pacific theater during World War Two.
