Another good one gone

Rico says that even the unheralded can have a full life, as her friend Hugh reveals in this obituary from the Punahou Bulletin:
Sad news of the passing of Ellen McGillivray Luhrs, on 12 August 2013, at her home in Atherton, California. Ellen was born of Scottish immigrants on the Big Island, attended Punahou and graduated with a degree in German from Whitman College in Walla Walla,Washington.Take a deep breath as I take you through her full life in sixty seconds: She used her language skills working for the CIA in Washington, D.C. Besides raising two children, Eric and Alexandra, she gained a reputation as a consummate hostess, gourmet cook, and a person with style. She loved to entertain her friends, family, and those from her many community connections at her Atherton home. Looking for new worlds to conquer, she became a successful stockbroker for 25 years at Morgan Stanley. She loved her garden and the culture of international travel, missing only two continents, Australia and Antarctica. If these were
not enough accomplishments for this woman of all seasons, Ellen had a passion for the arts, holding season tickets for the opera, a charter membership of the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, and memberships at the Smithsonian, the San Mateo Historical Association, the National Trust for Historical Preservation, and the Hawai'ian Historical Foundation. She was an avid volunteer and reading tutor, as well as a docent at Filoli Gardens
Ellen, the world and your Punahou classmates miss you. Ho‘o nui aloha ha‘awi aloha aku

I'm related to Ellen McGillivray Luhrs although I'm not sure exactly how. I think her father was one of my grat-uncles who emigrated to Hawaii from Scotland.I would love to get in touch with her family and to be able to fill in some details in my family tree. Any assistance gratefully received!

Lesley Kendall, nee McGillivray
