Slate has articles by
Dan Gartland and
Josh Voorhees about a pair of idiots,
George Zimmerman and
Rob Ford:
Zimmerman arrested. Again.
According to The Associated Press: "The man acquitted of criminal charges in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin was arrested after deputies responded to a disturbance call at a house in Florida, authorities said. Former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman (photo, above) was being transported and booked into jail, according to a Seminole County Sheriff's Office statement. Authorities provided few other details, and it was not immediately known what charge he faced. Messages for comment left by The Associated Press with the Sheriff's Office were not immediately returned."
What we know, from the Orlando Sentinel: "It was not immediately clear what happened or what crime he's accused of committing, but just before 1:30 p.m., Sheriff Don Eslinger confirmed that Zimmerman had been arrested and was being driven to the county jail in Sanford, Florida. The Sheriff's Office, in a short news release, reported that the agency had arrested Zimmerman after being called to a disturbance on Topfield Court in western Seminole County near Apopka about 1 pm. Zimmerman's new girlfriend, 27-year-old Samantha Scheibe, lives in the 1300 block of Topfield Court, according to an unrelated Lake Mary police report."
The arrest isn't Zimmerman's first brush with the law since he was acquitted this summer on all counts after shooting and killing Trayvon Martin. In September of 2013, he and his estranged wife were involved in a domestic dispute only days after she filed divorce papers. Zimmerman was briefly taken into police custody at the scene, but was never actually arrested (despite initial reports suggesting that he had been). It's still unclear exactly how that domestic incident played out— including whether Zimmerman was armed at the time— and police never pressed charges against either due to an apparent lack of evidence.
At this point, Rob Ford is pretty much just a walking (make that running) teaser for his new reality show, which debuts tonight. The above video occurred at a Toronto City Council meeting, at which members are voting to further strip Ford of as much power has they possibly can. At one point Ford grew enraged with someone across the room and seemingly attempted to rush over to confront him or her but, in the process, he ran straight into Councillor Pam McConnell, sending her briefly to the ground and launching a million-and-one "Wrecking Ball" jokes on Twitter in the process.
My colleague Emma Roller just got off the phone with Glenn Gustafson, McConnell's executive assistant, and he confirms that the contact appeared to be accidental. Still, he says, McConnell is "pretty shaken up by it", and that it could have been worse because she came very close to falling into a glass partition and metal handrail behind her. "I'm speechless," Gustafson said. "Honest to god, I'm speechless." Asked if he wanted to comment generally on Ford's recent behavior, Gustafson laughed for about ten seconds before responding: "Really? It kind of speaks for itself."
Rico says they may be from different countries, but they're both idiots...
