Code names for the day

There's probably some system to generate these, but Time has an article about the Secret Service and their code names:
No points for guessing who came up with Paul Ryan's code name. The outdoors enthusiast and unrequited Rage Against the Machine aficionado reportedly picked Bowhunter himself, because, well, that's what he does. The information comes courtesy of the website of GQ, quoting an unnamed campgain staffer. The Wisconsin congressman is even set to appear on the cover of the hunting magazine Deer and Deer (although pride of place is given to a picture of a massive buck).
Ryan's wife Janna is reportedly codenamed Buttercup, in keeping with the Secret Service's tradition of adding alliterative code names for members of the protectee's family.
Mitt Romney is appropriately known as Javelin, once a model of car made by American Motors, where Romney's father was chief executive, and an Olympic event (Romney stewarded the winter games in 2002). No word on how many terms beginning with J they've managed to come up with for Romney's five sons.
Rick Santorum's codename Petrus is just as apt. It's the latin derivation of Peter, which was (more or less) the name of his grandfather, one of his sons and, incidentally, the first Pope. (He's Catholic.) Its literal translation is "rock", which would put Santorum on even ground with his wife, whom he recently described as "the rock which I stand upon".
President Barack Obama opted for Renegade after being presented with a list of names beginning with the letter R. As custom dictates, the rest of his family's code names will be alliterative: wife Michelle is known as Renaissance; daughters Malia and Sasha are Radiance and Rosebud, respectively.
Rico says there's a bunch of historical (and funny, a lot of them) code names in the article, too: JFK was Lancelot; Nixon was Searchlight; Jimmy Carter was Deacon; Ted Kennedy was Sunburn; Ronald Reagan was Rawhide; Karenna Gore, daughter of vice-president Al Gore, was allowed to pick her own code name, SmurfetteVice-President Dick Cheney was Angler; and Cindy McCain was Parasol.
