That pesky Eighth Amendment

Eight of the ten men that Jerry Sandusky allegedly abused as boys say the incidents happend on the Penn State campus, and one of the alleged victims was only eight years old at the time, according to the latest document released by prosecutors in the case.
Reuters reports that the documents show that the former assistant football coach’s accusers say they were abused at his home, but also in locker rooms and dorms on campus, and at an outdoor pool. The Pennsylvania attorney general’s office also said that one victim was molested in Florida and Texas, possibly during the Outback Bowl in January of 1999 and the Alamo Bowl the following year. The alleged victims are said to have been as young as eight and as old as seventeen.
Sandusky faces 52 counts of abuse for the boys he allegedly molested between 1994 and 2008, the Associated Press reports. Sandusky, 68, has been awaiting trial, confined in his home, since he was arrested in November. He continues to deny the allegations.
CNN reports that prosecutors running the federal investigation may also be exploring new possibilities of a cover-up, as well as bribes and fraud. Two former Penn State officials have been charged with ignoring a report from an assistant coach about witnessing inappropriate conduct. The investigation will probe the institutional awareness of Sandusky’s conduct.
Judge John Cleland turned down Sandusky’s request for a two-month delay, and jury selection is set to begin on 14 May.
