Rico says his father just returned from a professional visit to North Carolina, which included a visit to Nag's Head, what with him being an oceanographer and all... The original pier is long gone (hurricanes, you know), but this will do. Family lore has it that Rico was conceived during an earlier (okay, a lot earlier) visit to the dunes in the area.
