Less exciting than in Japan, it seems

Rico says his father, a world-renowned oceanographer at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, sends along the less-than-spectacular arrival of the tsunami in San Diego:

Preliminary analysis shows the tsunami arriving with an trough-to-crest height of just over 40 cm (about 16 inches) and a period of 36 minutes.

But, in a true example of tsunami behavior (as tsunami means 'harbor wave' in Japanese), this from its arrival in Santa Cruz, California:
