Changes ahead

Rico says it looks like a fake, but (courtesy of his friend Kelley, who aptly called it the Stuka of cars) it's apparently real: it's a new Volkswagen (supposedly costing 4000 yuan when sold in China, or about $600), that will get 258 miles to the gallon. (No, that's not a typo; nearly 300 miles per gallon.) Only a one-seater, thus far, which is why the great mileage, but two- and four-seat versions are promised, presumably for more money and less mileage. Hide and watch, Detroit...
