Elbowing for a dubious distinction


Rico says his friend Kelley, always helpful, sent this one along:
Militia reenactors fire the first of three rifle volleys as part of the commemoration of Louisiana's secession from the United States during a ceremony on the north side of the Old State Capitol building in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On 36 January 2011 it was exactly 150 years since Louisiana seceded from the United States in the days leading up to the Civil War, but don't look for any official state events to commemorate the historic decision.
Rico says he always thought South Carolina had the honors (and he was right, as they actually seceded in 1860, not 1861); Louisiana was sixth, not first...
