On 8 March 1917, Russia's February Revolution (so called because of the Old Style calendar used by Russians at the time) began with rioting and strikes in St. Petersburg. Here, Vladimir Ilych Ulyanov, known by his revolutionary nom de guerre, Lenin, inspires a small cadre of Communist intellectuals to agitate amongst the workers and soldiers of Petrograd, today's St. Petersburg. Leon Trotsky stands at the right of the podium.
