Rico says that he's prone to rewriting what passes for English in the articles he quotes, and absolutely insists on putting in serial commas. Why? Well, Rani Cochran, with whom Rico worked at Apple years back, explained it with a quote from a book dedication that needed one:
I'd like to thank my parents, Ayn Rand and God.
It'd make a lot more sense with another comma, wouldn't it?
