Enlisting in the 9th Indiana Volunteers in 1861, Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce became a topographical engineer in Hazen's Brigade. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant, he saw some of the bloodiest fighting of the Western Campaign, including Chickamauga, Shiloh, and Kennesaw Mountain, where he was severely wounded. Following the war, he moved to San Francisco and began a career as a journalist. He also wrote books and stories, often with a macabre theme. His Devil's Dictionary justified the nickname of 'Bitter Bierce', but his Civil War remembrances showed the depth of the emotional scars he carried to his grave. The CD contains the famous Bierce story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, along with A Son of the Gods and A Horseman in the Sky. Available from CCNow for a mere $9.95 plus shipping.
