Back to basics

Rico says he flipped on the television this morning to discover Back To Bataan playing, a 1945 movie starring John Wayne and Anthony Quinn.
Wayne, of course, as Colonel Joseph Madden (no relation to John Madden), actually played himself, as he always did.
Quinn disappeared into yet another role, this one as Captain Andrés Bonifácio, a Philippine partisan resisting the Japanese.
A little forced, as so many movies were of that vintage, but a good war movie; Quinn was excellent, as ever.
A lot of faces you'll recognize from other films, including Richard Loo (later Master Sun in the Kung Fu series), Philip Ahn (also in Kung Fu, as Master Kan), and Vladimir Sokoloff (Old Stepan in Taras Bulba, which Rico saw in 1962 when it came out, and every time it's on television since).
