Just what she didn't need

The Oakland Tribune has a story by Randy McMullen about the Palin family scandal:
For Sarah Palin, after a grueling vice presidential race and dealing with the daily threat of hostilities from nearby Russia, the holidays are no doubt a time to unwind, relax, and find out that the mother of the guy who's supposed to marry your pregnant daughter just got popped on six felony drug counts.
In a story that would be getting much bigger play if it happened two months ago, Alaska State Troopers confirmed Friday they have arrested the mother of Bristol Palin's boyfriend on drug charges. Sherry Johnston, 42, was arrested Thursday after troopers served a search warrant on her Wasilla home. A spokeswoman said in a release late Friday afternoon that the charges "are in relation to the drug oxycontin".
Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, 18. Sarah Palin, GOP nominee for vice president, announced in September that her 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, was pregnant and Johnston was the father. The child, reportedly a boy, is due any day. Palin said during the campaign that Johnston and her daughter would marry soon. Sarah Palin did not comment on the arrest. "This is not a state government matter," Palin spokesman Bill McAllister told the Anchorage Daily News.
Sherry Johnston was released from jail in Palmer on $5,000 bail. She is scheduled to appear in court on 6 January at an arraignment hearing. Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said no one else had been charged. Other details could not be immediately released because the investigation was ongoing, she said. Palmer District Attorney Roman Kalytiak said information on the case had not yet been forwarded to his office.
