President George Bush, in an unusual move, has reversed one of nineteen pardons that he issued on Tuesday. White House press secretary Dana Perino said in a statement Wednesday the president acted based on information that has subsequently come to light in the case of convicted Brooklyn, New York developer Isaac Robert Toussie. Media reports say Mr. Bush reversed his decision after learning that Toussie's father had made contributions to leading politicians in the president's Republican Party, including former presidential candidate John McCain. The reports also say other information on the extent and nature of Toussie's prior criminal offenses has since come to light. Toussie was convicted of mail fraud and making false statements to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It is also being reported that Toussie admitted that he falsified finances of prospective home buyers seeking federally insured mortgages. The reports say several minority home buyers have sued Toussie, accusing him of luring them into buying overpriced homes that were poorly constructed and had hidden costs. In 2003, Toussie was sentenced to five months in prison, five months of house arrest and fined $10,000.Rico says it's one of the problems of this late-term spate of pardons; sometimes you pardon the wrong guy. But he's never heard of one of them being taken back before...
