A man, charged in connection with the case of an Erie bank robbery involving a pizza deliveryman and a bomb, was sentenced today in court. KDKA's Harold Hayes reports that Kenneth Barnes has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role as a conspirator in the case.Rico says he remembers this one; the cops weren't sure what the hell was going on until it was too late for poor Mr. Wells...
Last month, Barnes, 54, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and abetting charges.
Pizza deliveryman Brian Wells died when a bomb strapped to his neck went off shortly after the robbery of a PNC Bank in 2003.
Barnes and Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong are accused of forcing Wells to wear a bomb collar around his neck and rob the bank. Wells told police that he was forced at gunpoint. Prosecutors have said that they believe Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong was planning to use the bank money to hire someone to kill her father. She has been placed under psychiatric care pending a trial.
