Pinkerton's Secret is a historical novel about Allan Pinkerton, written as if by the title character but really written by Eric Lerner, a guy previously known for a lot of screenplays, including Bird on a Wire, Augustus, and Kiss the Sky. He writes well (okay, okay, he's no George MacDonald Fraser, but who is), and evokes the period and the people well. Rico says check it out.
