Serial commas are, alas, required

Rico says he knows he's mentioned it before, but he finds himself constantly fixing other people's material before posting it on his Rant.
The reason? His inability to let serial commas go unfixed.
Why?
As Rani Cochran pointed out, many years ago, this example of a book dedication:
I wish to thank my parents, Ayn Rand and God.
Rico says adding a serial comma after Ms Rand makes all the difference in the world, doesn't it? So, if I fixed your stuff without mentioning it, consider it a blessing...
