The culture shock'll kill 'em

Wikipedia, which does an unbelievable amount of work for only six employees because everyone else does their work for them, is moving from St. Petersburg, Florida to San Francisco. Fox Business has the story:

The headquarters of Wikipedia.com, operator of the online encyclopedia, is relocating in January from St. Petersburg, Fla., to San Francisco. "San Francisco is the center of high-tech in the United States and will give the foundation access to a rich array of resources," Florence Devouard, chair of the Wikimedia Foundation, said in a statement. Wikipedia was founded in 2001 and provides over 8 million online encyclopedia entries in 250 languages, including 2 million in English. The community-written encyclopedia is produced by volunteers. Anyone with online access can offer new entries or edit existing ones. Wikimedia Foundation's goal is to provide free online information. It offers several Internet sites providing access to reference material, books, news, and music. The foundation has six full-time employees in St. Petersburg. Others will be hired after the move to San Francisco, the company said.

Rico says it's undoubtedly a wise business move, but the weather alone is going to play hell with their employees, let alone the sticker shock if they ever buy a house...
