Another one gone, ten years on

Roy Rogers, famed television star of the eponymously-named show, died ten years ago today. While his singing was hokey and his acting was awful, he represented the Fifties and America in a way no one else could. As the Daily Press of Victorville, California (Roy's hometown for the latter part of his life) put it: "Although they were world famous, they remained 'real folks', symbolizing timeless virtues of honesty, integrity, and kindness."

Rico says he never loved Roy the way other kids did (and liked his sidekicks, Gabby Hayes, shown above, and Pat Brady and his jeep NellyBelle, better), but he remembers watching the show every time it was on...
