And we thought we had religious wackos

BJP leader L K Advani said in New Delhi that the Chief Minister's comments were "highly objectionable", not only politically but also under the law, as it is an offence to hurt the religious sentiments of any community and in this case it was the majority community.

And they wonder why the First Amendment is important...

But at least we don't have Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code:
"Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of citizens of India, by words, either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise, insults or attempts to insult the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both."

Damn, that gets me three years and a fine for this blog, for sure... (I sure hope they don't try people in absentia.)
Worse yet, as the blog notes, "in India, it now seems that the sword is mightier than the pen."
Well, I always agreed with Odd Bodkins that I'd rather be cut down than written off...
