According to CNN but moments ago, "former Vice President Al Gore & the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations organization won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for their work to raise awareness about global warming."
Al Gore got the Nobel Peace Prize?
Damn. But if you thought he had a big head before...
Previous American recipients of the peace prize include former presidents Jimmy Carter in 2002, Woodrow Wilson in 1919, and Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. (All Teddy Roosevelt did to deserve it was broker an end to the Russo-Japanese War, fer chrissake, and Wilson got it for the peace conference that ended World War One. Jimmy, as I recall, got it for being a nice guy from Georgia. So far, that's two from the South and two from the North...)
Also, "the former vice president said he would donate his half of the $1.5 million prize to The Alliance for Climate Protection, a U.S. organization founded by Gore that aims to persuade people to cut emissions and reduce global warming."
Nice deal, self-funding your own foundation. But, then, Al needed a job, right?
Until he gives in to this, of course: "In recent weeks Gore has been the target of a campaign to persuade him to enter the 2008 presidential race. Gore has repeatedly denied that he has any plans to run again, but this week a group of grassroots Democrats calling themselves 'Draft Gore' took out a full-page ad in the New York Times in a bid to change his mind."
Sorry but, Prize or no, I'm still with Fred.
